Information we collect

Information you send us

  • Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message. We use these only to read and reply to your message. The message is delivered by email and is not saved in the website’s database. Please do not send sensitive financial information.
  • Newsletter: we do not currently run a newsletter or collect subscriber addresses.
  • Comments: comments are closed by default. If they are opened on a page, WordPress stores what you submit, as well as your IP address.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: like most websites, our host may record technical data such as IP addresses, browser type and pages requested, for security and maintenance.
  • Spam protection: to limit abuse of the contact form, we keep a temporary one-way hash derived from your IP address for up to one hour.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see below.

Calculators

Our calculators run in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent to us or to anyone else, and they are not stored. If Analytics is active and you have opted in, we may record that a calculator was used, but never the values you entered.

What we do not ask for

We never ask for Social Security numbers, bank or card numbers, passwords or security codes. CreditPilot does not take credit applications.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. This site uses:

  • Necessary cookies: WordPress may set cookies for logged-in site administrators and for people who submit comments.
  • Preference cookie: if optional services are active, a cookie named cp_consent remembers your privacy choices for up to 180 days.
  • Analytics cookies: not in use at this time.
  • Advertising cookies: not in use at this time.

Analytics

We do not currently use an analytics service. If we add one, we will update this policy first.

Advertising

This site does not currently show ads. If we begin using Google AdSense or another ad service, we will update this policy before doing so, including how third-party vendors use cookies and how you can opt out.

How we use information

  • To answer messages and provide the services you ask for.
  • To operate, secure and improve the website.
  • To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell the information you send through our contact form. Any sharing with service providers, such as our web host and email services, is limited to what they need to provide those services. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Retention

  • Contact messages are kept in the receiving email account only for as long as needed to respond and keep reasonable records, and are then deleted.
  • The spam-protection hash expires within one hour.
  • The preference cookie expires after up to 180 days.
  • Server logs are kept according to our host’s settings.

Your choices

You can change or withdraw your choices for optional services here:

No optional cookies are in use right now, so there are no preferences to set.
  • We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to opt out of the optional services that this site manages directly.
  • Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies.
  • Advertising choices may also be shown through a consent message, depending on your location.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. These can include the right to access, correct or delete it, to obtain a copy of it, and to opt out of its sale, of sharing for targeted advertising or of certain profiling. Several US states, including California, have such laws, and laws in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland also provide rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

To make a request, use our contact form. We may need to confirm your request before acting on it, and we will not discriminate against you for making one.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us so that we can delete it.

Our articles link to other sites, such as government agencies. Their privacy practices are their own.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change. We publish changes on this page.
